Jeff Zwick Lights the Night Posted on October 13, 2020December 21, 2020 by Kelly Blake Jeff Zwick, PEDCO’s Industrial Market Leader, was diagnosed with Leukemia in the Fall of 2017. That winter, Jeff became sick with pneumonia and developed blood clots in his lungs, landing him in the hospital for nearly three weeks. After his recovery from pneumonia, Jeff began a clinical Trial at OSU Wexner Center. In the spring of 2019, Jeff attended the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Light the Night, their largest fundraiser. Inspired by LLS and their efforts, Jeff went to work with a team goal of $1000, only to surpass and raise close to $11,000. This year has brought many obstacles for many non-profits, including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Light the Night was forced to become a virtual event, and Team Zwick was hesitant to fundraise in light of the struggles COVID-19 has caused. As time passed, a number of reasons made it clear that raising funds for LLS was the right thing to do. LLS has been critical in funding clinical trials and developing new drugs. In the last 20 years, 40% of all cancer drugs were developed and first approved to treat blood cancers. Many are now being used to treat other cancers, like breast, colon, lung and brain. Currently, a number of cancer medications are being effectively used to battle symptoms and complications from COVID-19. None of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for work of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Although Team Zwick didn’t know how they would begin to ask their friends and colleagues to donate with the turmoil COVID-19 has caused, they went to work. Despite his condition and the need to quarantine, Jeff persevered and hosted his own socially distant fundraising event, raising over $20,000. Because of Team Zwick’s efforts, LLS honored them with the Light the Night’s IGNITE Award, acknowledging their collective energy, dedication and passion in the fight against cancer. PEDCO is proud to support Team Zwick and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
